Welcome to Christchurch's ESSENTIALS Walking Tour
We begin our journey below the iconic Bridge of Remembrance, right on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Cashel Street (see on Google Maps). Look out for your guide holding a purple umbrella ☂️ – that’s where your adventure starts.
This relaxed 1.5 – 1.75-hour walking tour takes you through the heart of Christchurch, with plenty of stops along the way. Together, we’ll explore the city’s fascinating mix of geological and human history, from the stories of Ngāi Tahu Māori to the early English settlers who helped shape Canterbury.
We’ll also reflect on the profound impact of the 2010/2011 earthquakes, sharing stories of devastation but also of resilience and creativity. Alongside the reminders of loss, you’ll see inspiring examples of recovery, innovation, and the ongoing opportunities that continue to transform the city.
As we walk, you’ll discover not only Christchurch’s past, but also its present energy and its future potential. This tour offers a unique perspective on why Christchurch and Canterbury are so well placed to thrive in the years ahead.

All our Tours start below the arch of the Bridge of Remembrance, on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Cashel Streets. Tours end at the Christchurch Arts Centre - which is 350 meters from the starting point. (Normally our guide walks back to the starting point so you'll be welcome to stroll back with him / her.)
Yes, the walking speed is an easy paced walk and suitable for most people.
NZD$25 for each adult. (NZD$25 is equivalent to approx. USA$15 or EU$12.80 or GB11 Pound)
Children 10 to 18: NZD$10 – when accompanied by an adult. (Max 3 children per adult)
Children under 10: free
We have two tours a day running. Start times are at 10am and 1pm daily.
Yes - the tours run every day and in all weather conditions however if we've no bookings, we may cancel the particular tour - so book in advance whenever possible.
